Mermaids

I made a mermaid baby.  I absolutely fought my daughter off of it to just get a picture for my Ravelry projects.  It was ridiculous.  The baby is cute I must agree with R.

This may all be repetitive because I can't remember what I wrote last.

I am getting a Nintendo DS from my hubby, I think I put that in the last.  Well, I purchase Nintendo Dogs Chihuahua (Merry Christmas to myself) and my hubby was mean and started playing it.  He made a dog and apparently you can not start over!  I have never ever heard of such. If anyone reading this might know an over-ride please email me!  Joe is really angry with himself.
He made a boxer and I wanted a chihuahua.  It was an accident so I am not too mad.

Oh well.

New Camera

So since August (the release of Breaking Dawn) I have been coveting my aunt's camera. I love how when I took a photo there was very little lag time. That is something I have found that I really hate about digital cameras. I wish I had the money to keep using my 35mm but since I am no longer a photography student, I do not have access to a lab. One day maybe. I keep thinking one day I will have my own.

I have been keeping up with the prices on B& H website. They have had much change until this week. The camera I want dropped to 200 bucks with no taxes (the store is in New York City) and free 2 day shipping. I realized after wishing I could get it that I had the money. With no shipping or taxes I had enough money!! I stash money, I still have my 100 from last Christmas and 100 for my birthday this year. I am super excited, and nervous. It should be here tomorrow!!

Damn, It's cold

Here in Do Nothing Town, Arkansas, the temperature is 28 degrees farenheight. Damn cold for Arkansas. Of course, the weather hit a week too early. I was truly hoping that the bad weather would hit the first of next week because no students will be on campus and there was a slight possibility that we could get off for Christmas early. Blah. I am very thankful for the fact that after next Tuesday I will not have to darken the campus's doors until January 5th. Fantastic and it is probably greedy of me to want more time off without taking leave.

I am not sure how things aren't freezing right now. It is 28 and the roads are wet, but there is no ice. Weird.

Something that accured to me this moring walking to work was that I have made hats for, it seems like everyone, but for myself. I think that is going to be my goal very soon because it is COLD!

Weekend

This weekend was spent knitting and being aggravated.   I was at my in-laws cabin and I did nothing but sit.  I would have did that anyways, but it was just different.  It was not home.  Oh well.

I finished the Utopia hat that was intended as a gift, but I knew I was in trouble when I was decreasing and it looked like an elf hat.  I gave it to R.  Adorable on her, but no gift for my friend.
I also finished the stocking cap for R that was inspired by "A Christmas Story".  Cute cute cute.

After completing those two projects, I started on socks.  I used a fantastic tutorial  (Silver's Sock Class).  I highly recommend it.  This was actually my 2nd go at this pattern and I stuck with it this time. (There were no distractions of other yarns or other projects, just the ones I took.)

After I finish my 2nd sock (over half finished, YEA), I want to try the invisibility cloak pattern from the book "Charmed Knits".   I have lace weight yarn that I have no idea what I am going to do with other than the cloak.

My other project that I would like to try is a Harry Potter Advent Calendar.  I am still planning.  I know that I am probably making the calendar itself out of felt.  It may not be a Christmas one.  It would be really cool if it was a movie release/Christmas calendar!  I may do that so it gives me till July to finish it.

Off to finish my sock.

Excited but Nervous

I order a Snape figure to add to my collection today. It was the cheapest I have seen 13.50 USD with shipping 20.05 USD. I am excited, but at this point more nervous because I haven't ever heard of the website. Stupid to order it then, I know. I once asked a co-worker what is the best method of determining a bad site and he said if they have addresses (snail mail) they should be pretty reputable. I am hoping that is true.

More excitement! I order a Bellatrix from Toys R Us. I am getting her for Christmas from my husband. I think I will ask him if he would like to pay me for Snape and he give it to me for Christmas, also. Very romantic, huh? I like it this way though, I get what I want. I am cool with no surprises.

My Harry Potter action figure collection is getting a little out of hand. At first I just wanted Ron, Hermione, and Harry. Now I have Sirus, Hagrid, the Voldemort and Harry Diorama (which is very cool and morbid). Then my collection grew to collecting patronus and pet animals. I have an otter (ferrit really but it was as close as I could get for the proportion), a barn owl, a fox terrier, an orange cat, a tabby cat (really close to Professor McGonagal) a white horse, a rabbit, a stag and a doe. I have yet to track down a snowy owl. I can get a black dog that works for Sirus. This is actually a pretty fun side project.

Now if I can get a Ginny. Or Draco. Or the Weasley twins.

Dobby-like eyes

I don't remember the exact description of Dobby's eyes, but this morning I woke up with them staring at me. I wish very much I had a house elf to knit for and such--I have to settle with a chihuahua.

Tico likes to sleep at my feet most of the time. Well, this moring after he woke up he layed his head on my pillow (like a human-head on pillow and body under the covers) and stared at me for 2-3 hours before I got up. It is very odd waking up that way. R does it to me sometimes coupled with her yelling, "Wake up Mommy!"

Kids and dogs are very similar I have found.

Party in the Common Room!

WoooHooo!  I am heading down to the kitchen to tickle the pear and get some good eats for the weekend!  The house elves are so sweet!  I am thinking about skipping my afternoon potions class, but I am sure I would get detention. Someone will rat on me and I am out of WWW Puking Pastels.  I guess I am going to have to suffer through it.

Decisions, decisions.  What to do for the rest of the night?  I thought about slipping out and exploring, I have heard of some weird stuff around the castle.

What ever the case, I just hope I don't run into Peeves or Filch.  I want to make it through the rest of the term without going to detention.

Disclaimer, I suck at this.

RAOK

I purchase my RAOK gift today, now I just have to make it to the owlery tomorrow!

Update on my computer, it is dying.  The screen started to bleed.  I am going to see how much it will cost for a new casing or if they even do that.  Blah...

I started a new mermaid.  She is going to be my largest doll have ever made...I am guessing she will be 16-18 inches long.  I bought more of the yarn that I used on her fins to make something Gryffindor themed.  It reminds me of something that would have been worn to the Yule Ball!  I think I just bought my LYS out of it which is sad because I don't have enough for anything but a scarf.  OH well, can't have everything.

Sitting

I am trying to plan what I am getting my RAOK person. I haven't the slightest what she would like and there isn't too much Ravenclaw things to purchase. Hmmm...decisions, decisions.

I haven't been working on my Tonks doll. I don't know why either. I have some really fun things I want to do with her clothing, I just can't get motivated. I actually have started a new mermaid. I haven't even really finished the last one. I can't decide if I want to leave her plain or if I want to glitz her (the finished one) up. I am kind of fond of her plain jane, so maybe the one I am working on right now I can experiment with. She is going to be larger so maybe that will give me more room to play.

My birthday passed with out anything else bad happening. I don't know if I could afford ruining anything else. I went to Wally Jolly World and purchased Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix PS2 game out of the bargin bin. I am 12% finished which is really good for me. I do not have the coordination for video games. I also found online that 3 Harry Potter games are for 20 bucks at another store. I am going to see if I can get someone to purchase it for me who lives near it.

Anyways.

Heartbroken

12:15 pm--I received a RAOK from Stuart that had a Gryffindor patch and hot chocolate! I was extremely excited because it was a Happy Halloween/Birthday card. I have to get on the ball now and get my stuff together for my RAOK person.

R wanted the hot chocolate Sunday morning so I mix it up for her and myself. It was yummy! I decided to search through Ravelry and catch up on everything I miss on Saturday. I have did this hundreds of times, I balance my cup on the arm of my couch. This time I wasn't very lucky. My husband started yelling.....YOUR CUP YOUR CUP!!! My cup full of hot chocolate fell on to my laptop and in the confusion of having him yelling and trying to get towels, R crying "Oh the Mac computer!" and me panicing, I dropped the damn thing on the floor. The screen cuts out and I hear it shorting out. I have already unplugged it and I am trying to turn it off.

I am heartbroken. We can't afford to purchase another one and it had our life history practically on it. It is running, I hear the fan and it still tells us the time about 2 and a half hours late. I am sick. I get tears every time I think of it.

4:25 pm--I began this post before lunch and at home (at lunch) I checked on my computer....IT COME ON! The parts that got most of the liquid isn't working but I think I can order the part and have my co-worker install it!

I am a bit happier about that. The worst thing was that today is my birthday and I have been depressed about it all day. I guess that is the way it goes.

Gryffindor Homework No. 4

Greetings to all Gryffindors. I'm sure many of you are busy finishing your Handmade Items for your enchanted kits, or may be busy with holiday knitting. We do have a small assignment (large, if you wish), for homework this week.

1. Name your favorite magical creature, and describe why it is your favorite.

2. Tell us your favorite charm, spell or curse, and explain why you like it.

3. Describe your favorite holiday family tradition - which holiday and what makes it special.

4. Name your favorite fiber-based (knitted, crocheted, or spun) finished object.

Please post answers on your blogs, by 12 midnight PDT Saturday night.
Hope to see you in the Common Room on Monday, at the regular times!

Cheers,-CentyB!

My Answers:

1. Name your favorite magical creature, and describe why it is your favorite.
I really like nifflers.  I think it would be quite handy to travel to beaches to discover treasures!  Plus, they just sound snuggly.

2. Tell us your favorite charm, spell or curse, and explain why you like it.
Lumos is a very useful, but episkey is very useful with a clumsy little kid.  Cleaning charms are fantastic, also!

3. Describe your favorite holiday family tradition - which holiday and what makes it special.  One of my favorite holiday traditions is on Christmas morning everyone gets up before dawn    to start opening presents.  It is always eventful!  I also enjoy watching absolutely as many Christmas movies as possible.

4. Name your favorite fiber-based (knitted, crocheted, or spun) finished object.
My favorite knitted item to date is my Sally the Ragdoll and my mermaid.  I have both of them on my project page.  I have many favorites that other people have crafted, there are just too many to list.

Snape

So who knew that as I listened to HBP that I would come to REALLY like Snape.  I felt heartbroken for him and his unrequited love, but this is a new respect and like.  How hard could it have been to be the executer of Dumbledore?  And during his grief (even though he was the reason) of loosing his friend, he had to act for the benefit of Voldy.

I am sure I am slow on the catching on to all of this, but I have a method to re-reading my books.  I realized last year that I re-read my Harry Potter books every two years.  Partly because of the releases of the last 3 books.  I am now trying to organize my reading to that schedule.  However, I have been really bored at work and I want to listen to something to motivate me to do something.  What better to do it by listening to Harry!

Anyways, I love Snape.  The end.

Vacation

We went to Blanchard Springs Caverns in Blanchard Springs, AR, before heading home on Thursday.  Here are some pictures:This is my attempt to catch a scene in the dark cave.  Lovely and blurry.

My husband's attempt.

Brown Bat.  It was so exciting seeing this bat, why I don't know?  My husband wasn't able to get a picture of a pile of bats.  There was probably 10 or 12 in a pile.  R took a plush bat home as a souvenir.   I think she really likes bats because they eat up to 3,000 mosquitos a night.  I think that impressed her actually.

We only have pictures of the Caverns, because I forgot to take them any other time.  The Ozark Folk Center (Mountain View, AR) had good photo ops, too.  I didn't feel good so I was doing good just making it through.....I got a drop spindle though!!  I am worried about using the wool that came with it since I am allergic to it.  I am going to see if I can order cotton from somewhere.

A Very Harry Potter Birthday

My camera has been MIA for about 2 weeks, but I found it!  Here are some pictures from my daughters Harry Potter Birthday Party.  It was very low budget decorating, but I thought it looked nice.I used an old vinyl curtain and spray paint to make the flags.  Staple them to string and tie on balloons and it is a Gryffindor party.

Boxes of party favors (ordered from celebrateexpress.com).  Keys go to our china cabinet and books!

We didn't have a lion.  The capes that my mom made.  She is a genius.

The birthday girl with he cape and hat.  The hats were decorated with stickers and crayon drawings (vinyl curtain also).

Poor Narcissa

I am listening to the Half Blood Prince at work and this morning I was struck how sad it must of been for Narcissa to go to Snape over Draco. A very disheartening feeling of doom knowing that your child is marked for death. I couldn't imagine.

I also remember how much I like that Dumbledore like reading knitting patterns! I thought it was funny the first time I read HBP and that was before I was knitting!

My status on my HSKS6 package is going pretty well except for the handmade item. I think I am going to try something else or change the fiber. I thought I could tuff out wool, but it has proven otherwise. I have to wear long sleeves and the weather here is still into the 90s. I have been so tired at night that I have been screwing up on it terribly. I think if I use cotton or try a new project I would be happier.

I started Jack Skellington on Monday night! I worked last night until 8pm and since I was on the Circ Desk I could knit. I got him mostly done while trying to read The Other Boleyn Girl, if that is the title? He is cute! I just have to problem solve the hands and do detail stitching and then I am done! I also started on Zero last night. I am not sure how I am going to make his brow slope...it is a pretty sharp slope. Mine probably won't be quite right, but oh well. The next character will be Oogy Boogy, R keeps asking for him. Go figure, a 3 year old liking Oogy Boogy.

Pondering

I am trying to work out my design for Jack Skellington. The body is pretty simple, the problem is his hands. They are long and then, pretty much out of proportion of his body. I am trying to figure a way to make them look right. No brilliant ideas yet. I am hoping it will come to me soon.

So, I am thinking of going back to school. This thinking has been going on for awhile. Now I have to decide between library science or art. I am going to have to force myself back into painting and I hate it. I don't want to force myself, I want to do it because something has inspired me. I think knitting maybe too much of a creative outlet for me. As stupid as it sounds, I thought about combining the two crafts.

I hate being an adult. Too many serious decisions.

Hogsmede Visit

The Hogsmede visit is scheduled for tomorrow!  But, the sad thing is I can't go.  :(  I got detention for setting off a dung bomb, stupid Peeves.  I have been told by a little birdie that there is a secret passage and tonight when everyone is asleep I am going to sneak to Hogsmede to get a butterbeer.  I have been craving one!

Cheers!

Twilight Swap Contents

Twilight Swap contents,  thanks you!

Sock needle covers, knit labels, 4 skeins of Vanna's Choice yarn, glow bracelets, felted bag,  Bee Movie Stickers, Little Mermaid chalk, and 2 item yet to come!

According to R this is smiling.  She enjoyed her stickers!

The bag is adorable!

She enjoyed her glow bracelets/necklaces, also!

Swapping it

I received my packaged from my Twilight Knitting Swap today!  I got 4 skeins of yarn from my partner.  I am wondering what project she had it mind.  I got an email from her today explaining why my stitch markers and pattern was missing.  Completely sounds like something I would do.

I pretty much have my HSKS6 swap items purchased!  I am so excited!  I purchased needles today, but I got the wrong kind.  Plus for me because I didn't have that size!

I am including my hat that I sent in the duel and the hat I received!  Funny thing, we made the hats out of the exact same yarn!  Color and all.  What a freak thing!

Hogwarts Picture Day

A day late, magic wasn't going right for me last night.

Yarn!

I am so excited! I have two items purchased for my package, yarn and an extra item. The handmade item is on hold at the moment until I finish the duel hat (about 36 rows left). Oh and I have the pattern picked out for the kit. I can't wait for my owl to deliver in a month or so.

I have to start planning for my little girl's birthday party next Thursday. I already have most of it planned, but I have to make a grocery list and what not. I am making house robes or capes (not sure yet) for the kids. I made and purchased Gryffindor house crest buttons from our media center here on campus. I was so happy I thought of it!

Gotta go to Transfigeration!

Death by Hat

The pattern for the Duel went out yesterday. A series of unfortunate event prohibited me from starting. (Visited Hagrid a little too long.) It is 9:40 am (Central) and I still have not started. Of course I am at work and they frown upon me knitting on the clock.

I am not sure if I am cut out for the Dueling Club. I need to find a club at Hogwarts that I am cut out for. I am trying to finish my handmade project early and my whole kit! I am studying up on my exams.

Off to Potions!

Harry__Harry Potter

In my sleepy, knitty, stupor last night I went to www.toywiz.com. They totally have new Harry Potter figures! Now I have to prioritize; yarn, food, or toys. Hard decisions!

I am working on R's tube socks. The first one is finished, the second one is a third finished. She is bugging me a bit over it. Started on The Corpse Bride- Emily. Eh, I am not sure I can pull it off. There is one bone and that is it, and the proportion of it means my doll is going to be huge! I want her to look good.

I am in research mode. I am searching for items of interest for my HSKS6 swap mate. Unfortunately, I can't write much about it. Nothing purchased yet.

Nothing much other than in my knitting world.

Away laughing on a fast camel.

Birthdays

My family celebrated my grandma's birthday today....78th birthday.  Unfortunately, I was not in tip top shape.  Afterwards, I went to a rent house with my mom (she is a landlord) and read my new knitting book!  It so far, I have tried anything yet, is great!  It is the Sweater Workshop.  I have to go to a rodeo tonight (my husband is a newspaper man, not a cowboy) and I am going to read it some more.  I will be ready to start my first full blown sweater after I make a sweater sampler.

Projects

I am, of course, a nerd.  I have started on my kid and dog's Halloween costume.  R will be Snow White despite her blond hair and Tico is going to be a bee.  A devil would have been cute but I was trying to keep them with a theme.  Or something like that.

I am behind on taking photos of projects.  I never find time to do them.  Well, away laughing on a fast camel, I am going to bed.

Knit Happens.

I have watched Nightmare Before Christmas probably about 7 time in the past 2 days. My kid loves it and I am trying to observe the structural build of Jack and Sally. Jack will be simple...or so I think, but Sally proposed more of a challenge. So far she is only a head with some hair. I personally thinks she looks pretty accurate. I have think adding features will make it even better. I am excited.

I am still sitting on 1,000 yards of cream colored llama silk. The perfect pattern hasn't caught my eye yet. I have an "if all else fails pattern" from Stitch N' Bitch called Pin up Queen. I bought some more sock yarn, even though I haven't used the first skein I purchased. I found a tube sock pattern and was extremely excited and I thought that I could master it. Well, it just doesn't seem to work out. I am missing some step in my math process.

Good News! I am walking my swap package to the post office in about 45 minutes!

Gee, It took me 15 minutes

I haven't been keeping up with my blog and I had no idea that something has been changed.  I am still not sure what it was.  I took me awhile to get logged in, but I am in now.

Knitting-

Hello Kitty hat
Maybe a cream colored sweater soon

Twilight Swap is coming to an end.  I have to finish my bag....hopefully tomorrow night or the next.  It is hard to sew with a kid.

I hope to get into the HSKS 6.  It seems that there are very few spots...or maybe I am wrong.

Short and Sweet, that is all I've got for now.

Dream Catcher

FYI I am deleting the photographs.

Nineteenth Entry: Some of the participants of the Twilight Knitting Swap were wondering how to make dream catchers. It just happened to be that it was my hobby as a little girl.

Here is a go at a tutorial:

Dream Catchers

Possible supplies

-willow branches
-dental floss or sinew
-leather strips
-stones, charms, feathers, etc.
-metal craft ring
-glue, if metal ring used.

For willow-

1. If the willow branches are not green and pliable, soak them in water.

2. Make a ring and fasten it withe the string material you are using.

3. Let ring dry for a few days.

Skip 1-3 for metal ring

For metal ring-

To keep the web from slipping, leather or yarn is wrapped around it.

4. Loop string around from the back of the ring to front. To form the loop, the string is on the left side. Pull string so there is no slack, but be careful not to snap string or willow.

5. Space out the loops so they are distributed proportionally to the size of your ring. Do this all the way around the ring.

6. Once you are back to the beginning, the last loop on that round forms and triangle. The "knots" are side by side. The next loop will be made in the middle of the first triangle made. This forms a line.

7. Repeat round like the first until web is the size you desire.

8. To finish, make a square knot at the last triangle on that round.

9. Last but not least, decorate with feathers, leather, stones, beads, charms, etc.

Maybe in combination with these instructions and these it will be pretty simple, ladyhawkesite.tripod.com/Crafts.htm

I am in the Twilight Knitting Swap!

Sixteenth Entry:  I got in to the Twilight Knitting Swap!  I had to make a sacrifice though, I had to join the Pack rather than the Coven.  It is okay as long as I get to participate.  I don't mind the color scheme for the Pack and I have ideas for the Coven-themed items.

I hope it is fun!

Nothing New Except a Dog

Eleventh Entry: I spent the weekend making dolls for consignment. They look pretty nuddy pants without hair and clothes, but I haven't had time to work on them since Monday. We have a new pet. He is a chihuahua named Tico. Tico is pretty cute, he handle an obnoxious two year old pretty well on the first day. Our Skitso isn't very happy about him. She feels invaded, I feel a bit bad about it.

I have to remember to post some photos of the finished Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Dobby. I made a larger Dobby with green button eyes and it looks pretty good if I do say so myself. Well, away laughing on a fast camel.

Another Try

Ninth Entry:  This weekend I worked on my Harry Potter dolls.  I made a miniature Hedwig and a Dobby.  The Dobby was for my daughter, but she decided that he was mine.  Ticks me off because she has driven me nuts about making her a Ron Weasley.  I am glad I didn't get rushed.  So far I have completed:  Harry Potter-he still lacks a sweater and glasses, Ron Weasley + clothing, Hermione Granger + clothing, Dobby, and Hedwig.  I have to make a smaller owl for Pigwedgion and learn how to make a cat for Crookshanks.  I just may continue and make a Ginny and a Luna.

Last night I was looking at the Harry Potter related crafts on www.the-leaky-cauldron.org and I was inspired to make earrings for myself.  They are, of course, Gryffindor colors. I will try to get a photo soon.

My mom found me a Harry Potter Quidditch watch today for 2 dollars.  She gave it to me as a Mother's Day present from my Rowie.  It made my day!

Ideas

Sixth Entry:  I had a semi-productive weekend.  I finished some projects this weekend, like the Slytherin purse I was making for a friend and some other odds and ends.  So, I am back to making my dolls.  I am sad to say, I haven't finished my Harry Potter yet.  He only has half of his hair.  I figure after I get them completely finished making the clothing will go pretty fast.  Today while waiting on my stupid scanner to work I was thinking about Dobby.  My little girl loves him, we watch HP2 a lot because of him.  I was thinking I could use the basic pattern for my dolls and make a Dobby for her.  I am not going to tell her, I don't want to get her hopes up.  She tries to abscond off with my Ron (I am making her one of him too).  She is  pushy about her dolls and she is only 2.5.  I am excited to see if I can make a convincing Dobby.

My hubby graduates from college next Friday.  It seems like this is a bigger milestone than my graduate was, strange.  I think we are going to have an outdoor party hopefully!

Yarn It

Fifth Entry:  Last night I made a mad dash to the yarn store after I got off of work.  I purchased the yarn for the clutch (black, baby alpaca) and some yarn for a kitty hat (hot pink tweed, cotton and wool blend, pattern from Stitch N' Bitch).  The purse I started immediately and got like 95% finished, but I am not sure if it looks the way I envisioned.  So, I started on a new one and I am crossing my fingers that I don't have to buy more yarn.

In the finished pile I added the bikini top.  I can't seem to find the other skein of yarn I used so that is put on the back burner.  Kind of pissy.

Harry Potter Dolls

Second Entry: Here is a picture of my two finished dolls. They lack faces because I haven't decided how to do it yet. Harry is still in the making so are Ron and Hermione's clothing.

My dragon scarf is going pretty slow. I get bored with the repetition of the scales. My inspiration is from Morehouse Farm Puff the Merino Dragon Scarf Kit.

Happy knitting.

First Blog

First Entry: I am a first time blogger. This is all new to me and kind of strange. About me, I have a family of three plus some add ons and a cat named Skitso.

My current knitting projects are: Harry Potter dolls, a dragon scarf, and a purse for a friend. Soon I want to learn how to make socks. I just discovered the wonderful world of double pointed needles.

That's it for now.
