Mr. Butters new mug shot

I am on hold posting a lot of photos on Ravelry because I used up my monthly alotment of photos is used up on Flickr. Here is a new photo of Mr. Butters. The other just does not show his scholarly side.

From another post:

Mr. Butters the Office Monster is always so dapper in his bowtie. He diligently works on Reference questions to help the students.
In his spare time he likes to sort his bowties by the color wheel, read Science Fiction, and watch swamp monster movies.

His true ambition in life is to prove the *Big Foot is real.

*Also known by the Fouke Monster, Skunk Monster, etc.

Harry Potter Anagram

Pandora Phelps's

Let the anagram solving begin!

In the second volume of the HP books by JK Rowling, The (#1)Chamber of Secrets, we continue to learn the incredible adventures of Hogwarts student (#2) Harry Potter and his friends (#3) Ron Weasely and (#4) Hermione Granger. Belonging to the house of (#5) Gryffindor, they attend Defense Against the (#6) Dark Arts taught by Wizarding celebrity (#7) Gilderoy Lockhart, a none-too-bright fellow who cannot even handle pixies!
In The (#8) Chamber of Secrets, we also meet Dobby a (#9)House Elf for the first time. Determined Dobby seeks to sabotage the return of (#10) Harry Potter to Hogwarts and is pretty persistent but is unsuccessful. After a few weeks at school, the deceased Ravenclaw student who haunts the girls lavatory, also known as (#11) Moaning Myrtle, shows (#12) Harry Potter and (#13) Ron Weasely an old empty diary that dropped through her ghostly form out of thin air!

Many nifty things continue to happen for the next several months… we won’t go into all the juicy details right now… however, the ending is prime reading indeed!! (#14) Harry Potter finally kills Tom Riddle’s (a.k.a #15 Voldemort) sneaky diary (which we now know is a #16 horcrux) and saves the sister of (#17) Ron Weasely, (#18) Ginny!!!
Oh! Of course, we must mention that the thickheaded (#19) Gilderoy Lockhart unintentionally erased his own memory, so he won’t be back for book three, The (#20)Prisoner of Azkaban

Hermione's Crafty Fire

Remember how Hermione would conjure up a blue flame and store it into a jar to warm the trio's hands in between classes? Well, this is my knitted version in honor of HSKS8 Summer Camp!

The Purple People Eater

The Purple People Eater’s favorite past time is watching TV. His favorite shows are about ghosts and hauntings. One day he plans to join a ghost hunting team to research the battlefields of Gettysburg. He is very interested in battle history.
When he isn’t watching TV he is working in his cactus garden.
His friends call him PE for short.

This was my first Magic Loop project. I don't think I am doing it completely correct, but oh well. The fuzzy yarn really worked against me. I remember why I hate that kind of yarn with a passion.

Department of Mysteries

I went to Hobby Lobby this past weekend to pick up some stuff for HSKS 8 and found unpainted doors. They were called Fairy Doors, but this one looks for like a castle. I had to have it + it was 40% off.

I am pretty pleased with the outcome. I have about 3 layers of paint on the door + glossy gel medium. The hinges have about 4-5 layers and glossy gel medium. Adding the medium to the hinges really made them have a real quality.

I called it the Department of Mysteries, but I have had people say door to Fluffy on the 3rd floor and door to Room of Requirments. It is left to be pondered for others.

My Patronus the Jarvey

My patronus is a jarvey. It very strongly resembles a ferret, except for one defining trait-- the jarvey talks. Mostly they just a curse, but I would say they are quite different from a normal muggle ferret.

When I feel the chill of what could be a dementor, I fire my jarvey at them and he gives them a ear full.

The trait that the jarvey and I share is bad language and craftiness. I am sneaky when I comes to searching for items that are being concealed from me. Bad language is pretty self explanatory, although I try very hard to keep it to a minimum. Like today, I was chopping up burning roots (pepper jack cheese) for a potion (salad) when a fleck of the root popped into my eye. Needless to say, I did not control my language.

Jarvey are pretty handy to have in a garden to control the gnome population, also!

Green Tea and Sunscreen

I have been brewing green tea and icing it down. It is way too hot outside to drink it hot, but I needed it to relieve some water I retained. I had super super super salty beef jerky (more salt than normal) and started swelling almost immediately. As soon I got home, I got to drinking. It is so yummy on a hot day.

We have finally pulled the baby pool out and swam in the back yard. We are dreading the water bill now, but it was fun and easier than going to the lake. Poor Tico nearly made it into the pool about 5 times. He hates water. The only time I have seen that he enjoyed it- we were on the river and I don't know why he swam that time.

I have a lot of my HSKS summer camp stuff planned out and a few things purchased. I have swapped to Georgiana's "cousin" before so I am being real careful not to duplicate anything.

I started something to represent the Threstral cabin, but it is still in limbo.

I started my sister's Christmas present! I am hoping to make the boys' hunting hats.

Home

I am home from my trip with no photos to show. It is unbelievable, I forgot my camera at home. Really really sucks. I had some paint colors picked out for my house (exterior). Butter yellow, black, white, and blue ceiling on the porch.

I went to Eureka Springs, AR. It is really cool that most every thing is Victorian. I visited the Crescent Hotel. I unfortunately did not stay there. R fell down some steps on her rear end. I caught her before she started tumbling. We all started laughing, even her. Thank goodness for butt cushion, aka fat. They had a ghost tour, but I wasn't able to go. Maybe next time.

I saw a man's member billboard sign. I am figuring it was a place of pleasure at one time. It is now a bath house.

I bought some alpaca that was raised, spun, and dyed by a farm in Wisconsin. It is really nice and way more expensive that I would normally buy, but it was vacation.

Weekend Knitting Disasters

Okay, so I really haven't had any disasters. I have not started or finished even one project. Everything I start it doesn't work or I am not patient with it. I feel knitting discontent. I think my whole being has been off this weekend because my schedule change at work.

I was off last Monday because we were having a strategic planning meeting on Friday. It just about killed me-- a eight hour meeting, uh. Maybe something good came out of the meeting.

I am pretty excited about getting started on my swaps. I think this is the first time that HSKS and HLBOE will be going hot and heavy at the same time. I guess I will be getting a swap partner next week...maybe?

Uh...if I could only get a project that feels right.

Prisoner of Azkaban and the Maurader's Map

Have you ever really really thought about the Maurader's Map?  Like the fact that Fred and George was in possession of this map for at least 3-4 years and NEVER noticed that a dead man's name popped up in their brother's dormitory?  They knew the story of Peter Pettigrew because Ron's dad had told them.

Any thoughts?

Number 13 phobia?

I realized that in my numbering of folders I left out number 13! Ahhh....this has not been an easy task to fix. Oh course it was easy to erase my numbers on the folders, but on my inventory... a little more challenging. Grrr. Damn number 13.

Stripe help

I maybe the only person in the world who doesn't know this, but this is a link to someone's very helpful blog on how to avoid "jogging stripes." I thought this could be useful with everyone starting scarves for the HBP opening!

knitting, diamonds, squares, raok

2 June 2009

I was naughty this pass weekend and started another project. I started another Ginny GOF hat. I had yarn just screaming at me to use it. It is looking pretty huge.

Once I finish my blanket, hat, and bag pieces I have to get back to mittens for Warm Woolies and S.P.E.W. This term with HLBOE we are making mittens and we can give them to the charity of our choice. Which is really nice because I need to do more WW stuff. My tally is only 2 hats.

La de da...Oh, I recieved a RAOK from my HSKS 7 partner! I notice right at the end of term that my name was checked off the list. I got it in the mail yesterday! I had on my wish list a book keeper that has a lightning bolt embroidered on the front. It is so cute! I am going to take a photo of it and post it. Hopefully I can get to it tonight.

3 June 2009

I think I am going diamond hunting on Friday. I haven't been in years. Here is the link if curious

I am hoping that it rains before then so we will have more of a chance to find something. R will like digging in the dirt if nothing else. I read that they have a water park now. I don't know if we will do that, but any who. If only I found a diamond....

I was watching a show on the Travel Channel one day about all of these places in the U.S. you can pay a fee to dig or mine for gems or fossils. I have decided when R gets older that is what we should do- travel everywhere to dig for stuff. I am going to research some places. Wouldn't it be just neat to find your own emerald.

I finished my 3rd Ginny GOF hat last night. All I need to do now is run the yarn or ribbon through the holes. It is pretty cute. I have no idea what I am going to do with it. I am over due on a graduation present...I think she would like it.

I have 2 blanket squares left. I should have finished it this past weekend, but oh well. I going to get it done this weekend hopefully. I am going to use Pren's Gryffindor dishcloth with some minor changes to fit my block and something else red.

I am trying to finish up one of my purses too. It is a 1/2 knit, 1/2 sewing project. (I am using the yarn from Lady Arabella for this one) Now that I moved to a larger space I think I can have a sewing machine. I really want to use the fabric that Cassandra Crisomchin gave to me because I love it so much!

La dee da. Wish me luck on the diamond!
